An initiative petition to legalize marijuana use in Oregon will be on the November ballot.
The Oregon Secretary of State's office confirmed July 14, that Petition 9 gathered the required signatures to qualify for the ballot. Voters in Washington and Colorado also will be voting on marijuana legalization this fall.
If passed the intiative will allow for production and sale of marijuana through state licensed stores. It also will allow users to grow marijuana for their own use. But any state legalization efforts are bound to face legal challenges, because federal law prohibits possession and use of marijuana.
